Home is a connection to place and well being. Through painting it becomes highly visceral for me. Meaning it is intuitive, and feeling based, and communicated through a relationship of any combination of colour, shape, texture, form, or line.
My work has an expressive rawness to it that a painter would refer to as "painterly," because of its energetic surface qualities. Movement, mark making, and colour relationships are emphasized over realism in this type of work. As such, this painting as an example of my work, is more abstract and symbolic than realistic, and yet for me abstraction feels more real for the gut reactions it elicits. It is that approach that allows me to represent a place as feeling.

The creative process: The idea began early in the morning. All my creative ideas come just as I am waking up. This one started as an energetic drawing seen on the left. I pulled out a canvas and noticed It had the start of a painting I had forgotten. The two ideas merged into one composition. I have a jar of small beach stones and beach glass, and those became incorporated as well. I used those to exaggerate the perspective.
